Welcome from the Presidents of ISCFS and SOBRAPAR
Message from the ISCFS President
The 12th Biennial Congress of the ISCFS will take place in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil from August 23-25, 2007. This is a meeting of particular significance, since it is the first time that the meeting will be held in South America.
The meeting will have two major themes:
First, the meeting will be dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and a world-class craniofacial surgeon, Cassio Raposo do Amaral, who was tragically taken from us at his very prime. Dr Cassio Raposo do Amaral was the ISCFS secretary-treasurer from 2003- 2005, and he had been elected president of the ISCFS for 2005-2007.
The second theme can be expressed as "Craniofacial Surgery 1967-2007: Transforming the Gold Standard." Paul Tessier began the sub-specialty of craniofacial surgery with his 1967 presentation in Rome. We will examine some of his results, which are universally considered the gold standard, and we will consider how our approaches are different now, and what they may be in the future.
Salvador, Bahia is the largest city in the nine states of the Brazilian Northeast, boasting some of the world's most beautiful beaches. In Salvador, you can still live history through the city's unrivaled colonial architecture, as you wander its labyrinth of hills and narrow streets.
Until the 19th century, the city of Salvador boomed as a port city with a lucrative local sugar-cane industry supported by a large slave population. Today, Salvador, the capital city of the state of Bahia, is considered a renowned center of Afro-American culture and spirituality. The list of Salvador's fastest growing exports should include Capoeria, Candomblé, and Carnaval.
I am anticipating that this will be a superb meeting, from both a scientific and a social point of view. I hope to see you there.

Message from the Brazilian Host Organization, SOBRAPAR
SOBRAPAR Institute of Craniofacial Plastic Surgery is very proud to participate in the organization of the XIIth Biennial Congress of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery (ISCFS).
Professor Cassio Raposo do Amaral was the founder of SOBRAPAR and its president for 26 years. During his leadership, this renowned Institute achieved the respect and consideration of his colleagues around the world.
As a pioneer of the craniofacial field in Brazil, he always dreamt to place our country on the global scientific map. Due to his endeavors, Brazil for the first time in the Society's history has been elected to host the ISCFS International Meeting.
The next generation has the responsibility to go farther, to build on his accomplishments and to acclaim even more for the name of our country.
— Vera Lucia Adami Raposo do Amaral
